Fire Station

Today our play group took the boys to the Hoover fire station. Gina's dad was the Fire Chief for many years and his now the Fire Marshall, so she put together to outing:) It was so much fun! I absolutely love having an amazing group of women to hang out with...and with the babies of course! The boys were a little young to understand exactly what was going on; but they loved the bright colors, lights, and firefighters!

Music City Trip

It was a quick trip but so much fun! Vacationing with a baby and a dog isn't quite the same when you go somewhere in which the main attraction is a strip of bars...but I love that we got to go as our little family:) Started off the trip with a stop at the cutest little baby boutique ever, Tweed. One of our favorite people in the world, Betsie "Jetter" Haan, has a little sister Maggie that just opened Tweed Baby Outfitters in the Edgehill area of Nashville. Adorable shop and items! We all know Mike's love of shopping for Jack, so he was pretty excited:) If you have a baby, or know of a baby, you MUST stop in Tweed when visiting Nashville. You will be very happy you did! Jack will be modeling his cute outfits in the next few weeks for ya'll!

I think Jack found a new girlfriend! Sorry buddy...she's getting married in a few weeks:(

After our fun shopping trip we checked into our hotel. Then headed out to lunch and go check out a few bars with live music. We met up with a coworker of Mike's for an early dinner and then headed back to the "strip" just to walk around and check out some more music until 8 or so. With a baby it's an early night:)

Wednesday morning there were thunderstorms outside when Mike was at work so we just hung out at the hotel. Jack figured out ways to entertain himself. I am getting the impression that little boys entertain themselves in the messiest way possible when allowed!

Fun quick trip to Music City for the Postma's!

Dutch was exhausted!

Last Minute Trip to Nashville!

On Friday Mike asked if I wanted to tag along on a business trip up to Nashville this week. I said "YES" right away, but then remembered I now have a baby and a dog and no family close by to watch either/both. So I spent sometime trying to figure out the logistics, and today Mike just told me to pull the trigger and book the room. Here we come Nashville...TOMORROW! I don't think I have ever planned a trip so quickly! It is only a 3 hour drive and we found a nice dog friendly hotel downtown Nashville. Mike thinks I am crazy, but I swear it was just a coincidence that the Hermitage Hotel was recently rated the #1 dog friendly hotel for pampered pooches in the country! Ha! Ohhh how he loves his Dutchie Dutchie:)

Wish us luck!

On another note Jack likes to feed himself only. This is difficult because he still has no teeth...food selection is therefore limited. I'm sure we will figure something out:)

Jack talking...cracks me up every time!

My boys grilling:)

Weekend Update

We had lots of fun things planned but Friday it rained canceling the movie in the park. I was very disappointed! Then on Saturday I woke up feeling awful. We went to the mall just to walk around and get Jack out (it was still raining), and then Mike took Jack to the pool while I tried to nap. Then just as we were getting ready to head to our friends the Wade's house for yummy Seafood gumbo, I started to feel REALLY BAD! I'll spare you the details but it was a stomach thing...

I was so worried about getting Mike and Jack sick (especially because I am still nursing). But Mike took such good care of Jack and let me rest! He's such an awesome Dad and Hubby:) By Sunday night I felt much better and so far neither one of my boys have had a symptom of sickness! Phew!

Jack's new obsession is playing in my closet. I try to leave workout clothes within his reach because I don't want things to be too girlie. He really loves shoes. My closet is right in the master bath so it's just convenient to let him play in there. Mike's is right in the bedroom and I don't think there is quite as much to play with in there:) Ummm yes one of things I love most about this house is the TWO master walk in closets! I don't think I can ever go back to sharing!!!

Mom's Supper Club Night

Tonight was a Mom's Supper Club, hosted by a new a loved friend Allison! One of the biggest changes moving here to Alabama is having a lot of mutual friends at the same stage of life as Mike and I; and that being said there are tons of social gatherings planned around Dads/Moms nights out or just family get togethers. Mike had a guys night on Tuesday, and tonight was my girls night. Henry Cloud is currently guest speaking at Willow Creek on the topic of intimacy and addressed the very subject of couples needing their separate time. Mike and I spend every minute together as soon as he gets home from work, so going out individually takes us out of our comfort zone! We just love spending time as our little family! But it's nice to have some relaxing time to talk with other Moms, eat some yummy food, and drink wine. I'm sure Mike enjoys some quiet time watching sports, eating wings, and drinking beer. Click here if you want to listen to the message:)

Mike took Jack to the pool once he got home from work which left me time to shower and actually blow dry my hair!

I love them both so much it makes my heart hurt:)

My first little baby!

So the the food was fabulous at the supper club and the company even better!!! I am NOT a baker, I have a hard time following directions (learned the hard way you can not substitute baking soda for baking powder). Anyways, because I am not a baker I challenged myself to actually bake something! I think it turned out pretty well, but I'm sure if it was baked by my Mom or Oma it would taste better:)

Shopping With A Baby

If you know me you know I love to shop.

It's a weakness, not something I am particularly proud of. But it is me and I'll admit it I LOVE IT. A lot of the time I like to just "window shop". Everything is so organized so new. It's a hunt to look for the deal. For that one item that will complete an outfit or a room. A thrill to find the accessory that (I think) will last a lifetime. I get my workout in shopping, by pacing around the stores just looking....and then carrying the bags to my car. I even get to enjoy the outdoors as I walk between stores. Although, I love to shop I am not a "Shopaholic", there are many times that I go shopping and come home with nothing. I don't shop to buy, I shop for a purpose.

I think it is pretty funny that a shopping lover like myself married a Dutch finance guy. But my hubby knows my love of shopping and this weekend even surprised me with a trip to Saks for a present. I love that man he spoils me and still wants to woo me after being married for 4 years. He knows that a fancy dinner out is nothing compared to a new pair of shoes (every time I type or say new shoes I think of the song). My Mom is a shopping lover so I blame her. And actually, though he won't admit it, my Dad is quite the Mr. Fashion...so it's a little him too:) And the long legs and big feet are his fault, I can't just wear anything!

So there it is I love to shop. And not just for me. I love to shop for anyone! Stroll the stores. Talk to the sales people. It's so relaxing with the background music and sometimes delicious smelling candles. A true stress reliever.

That of course was B.B. (Before Baby).

Now I schedule shopping between nap times and meal times, which leaves about 1.5 hours (round trip if I am very lucky). Ugh. When Jack was a teeny weeny baby he loved to shop and look at the lights. Now he wants to crawl and grab and NOT sit in the stroller. He pulls down displays, or clothes off the hangers, puts extra items in my cart...and cries when bored. He gets bored in approximately 10 minutes. In some stores I just ignore it, like Target, Costco, and Whole Foods (um those are the nicest people in the world they tell me Jack is just "curious" and "will be so smart" when he pulls down the displays). But in other stores like Saks, BR, JCrew, even the Gap I just feel like an awful parent as I browse through the racks with a screaming red-faced kicking little baby. The optimist in me just says that Jack makes me a more efficient shopper.

Online shopping is not the same. I guess I achieve the same result, but the EXPERIENCE is NOT at all the same!

So ladies with no babies enjoy your days of peaceful shopping....they are numbered!

Hungry Little Bear

For the past 4 weeks Jack has been OBSESSED with "puffs". He LOVES to feed himself! So now that he is 8 months I have started to experiment with other foods. Pasta noodles, eggs, bananas, cherries, well cooked veggies...I'm sure there are some I am forgetting. Anyways, he loves them all! It's a mess, but he enjoys it so much and the kid needs to learn to feed himself:) Next step getting this little Bear to take a bottle...hmmm

Jack Fell Asleep in the Bathtub

Pictures from this weekend will be posted shortly but I had to post this video from tonight. We wore our little 8 month old (YES 8 MONTHS OLD) out tonight. I was cleaning up the kitchen after enjoying yummy Blu-Arugula Burgers (thank you Courtney for the recipe), and Mike called me into the bathroom. He said Jack was sitting up playing and then he laid him back to clean off his carrot smeared face and the little Bear just feel asleep. Too Cute...

We Love Our Mimi Time

The guys departed early Monday morning for their business trips, which left my Mom all to ME (and Jack and Dutch)! We had such a nice time just relaxing and spending time together. I love that woman! It was a productive trip as we found her Mother of the Groom dress for the big event next May! I can't reveal any details you'll just have to wait:)

Jack loves his Mimi! So does Dutch, he doesn't even sleep with me when she is here. I feel like I am on vacation when my Mom is here she is such a help! I mean don't get me wrong my hubby spoils me when he gets home from work...but I had her 24/7:) It was a nice treat. Of course it is sad to say goodbye but Mike is flying me back late August to stay with them for a week while he is in Brazil! Plus we are all headed up there for Labor Day weekend, and then Mom & Dad come back at the end of the month! And Mike's parents are coming too in September...so we can't be homesick ever because we have lots of fun things planned!
