The Greatest Show on Earth

Friday night we got to take Jack to the circus! We went with one of Mike's bosses from work and their grandkid. Not going to lie, I was a little nervous at how Jack would enjoy a show that didn't start until 7:30pm, but he did GREAT! I had my bag loaded with snacks just in case...but I didn't even have to use them. Amazing. Seriously.

We got to the BJCC at 5:30pm to have a bite to eat and let Jack roam the "Magic Moments" preshow area. His favorites were: the dancers in glittery outfits, balloons, the stairs, and cotton candy. After possibly 50 trips up the stairs Jack was pooped and sat still in his seat. His eyes lit up when the elephants and horses were out in the arena! We made it until intermission, then Jack crashed, and we headed home.

Too cute and so much fun taking Jack to all of these events that I have fond memories of!

Sweet Tooth

A certain Mom (you know who you are) left some cupcakes here after playgroup on Tuesday and Jack has had his eye on them ever since! Because he now can reach and grab things off the counter I have been keeping these sweet treats on top of the fridge.

But I'm pretty sure Daddy had one last night and didn't put them back in their safe spot, so Jack saw his opportunity this AM and made his move.

Rainy Tuesday

Tuesday was 40 degrees, windy, and wet. This was a hard transition from Monday's gorgeous "spring day" weather of 56 and sunny. Jack, Dutch, and I were so happy to get in a long walk and some park time Monday!

Tuesday morning started off with Jack sleeping until 7:30am (AWESOME) and then Bible Study. We are studying the book of Joshua, this weeks homework was hard but I loved the lesson, so I was looking very forward to some discussion time with my group. Week #2 of dropping Jack off in the nursery was just has difficult as week #1. He is not a fan. Jack clings to me and starts crying as soon as I hand him off. Makes me feel awful. When Gina and I went to pick up the boys we were laughing because as we stepped off the elevator there they were. Just the two partners in crime hanging out in the "Bye Bye Buggy", a six seater stroller that they push the cry babies around in. He was so happy to see me that the whole afternoon I was showered with hugs and slobbery kisses! Both Jack and I need to suck it up and get used to the nursery drop off.

Later on that afternoon we had some buddies over for a play date. Watching them just cracks me up, they are all in their own little worlds:)

Rainy days make me very thankful for all of my mommy neighbors.

Off to the Superbowl!

Way to go Packers!

We are pretty excited in this household especially since the biggest Packer fan of all, my Dad, will be here Superbowl weekend. Cheeseheads may just have to be purchased.

Jack is sure getting lots of use out of his green and gold gear this year:)

Video Updates

Preppy and I have been busy videotaping walking Jack! Wanted to post some on the blog so Oma & Opa could see him roam the house. He is going to be serious trouble, I don't think I will be sitting down until he goes to kindergarten. Let the fun begin...

Usually Jack is in little gentleman attire and of course when we are videotaping these milestone moments he is not. But with the Packer's headed to the Superbowl, he has been going sporty:)

Friendship

*Note this is not a Jack post, this a Jenny journal post!

This year has taught me about a lot about friendship. The strength of my friendships have been tested as the convenience of being close to one another, distance wise, has changed. And I have added a new little buddy into my life, Jack, who is taking up most of my time. I have had to make new friends, something I haven't had to do since my first week at college, because I always had friends and family around.

When Mike and I were going through premarital classes our mentors asked how we would balance our friendships and marriage. I thought I was the perfect little wife-to-be replying, "Oh no I just need Mike, he is my very best friend". The wife  cracked a smile and responded with something like, "Jenny, God blessed you with other people in your life. You can not expect Mike to be everything to you. You need your family. You need friends. Your marriage will be better if you foster those relationships." My bubble was busted. But I knew she was right.

I should have just responded honestly, I mean Mike and I have always been very social people and have had lots of friends, a quality we both were attracted to in each other. And not just lots of friends, but old friends. The kind of friendships that have taken a while to build and take work to maintain. I remember thinking that if Preppy had those type of friendships, people that have known him for years and years and still want to be around him, then he must be a catch.

One of my new year's resolutions is to become a better friend again. To my friends that have know me since I was 7 years old, to my Hope College family, to my new friends that have made moving to Alabama so much easier, I want to become a better friend even to my family members. The time needs to be devoted to foster these relationships. As I get older I don't want to forget how to open myself up and let my guard down. Mike and I are blessed. God has put amazing people in our lives and we have the chance to build incredible friendships with them.

I want to share with you some text from the wonderful book I have mentioned before, Cold Tangerines, by Shauna Niequist. I absolutely love the picture she paints of God's purpose for friendship.

After the meet, I was soaking wet and exhausted, still wearing a crazy wig and soggy tutu. Jessie's mom came to find me as I was closing up the pool. She held my arm and looked right into my eyes. "Until you have kids of your own," she said, "you will never know what this is like. As a mom, all I wanted to do was run down the bleachers and jump in with my clothes on to finish the race with my daughter, and I'm so glad you did. Thank you for caring about my child the way I would have if I was right there."

That's what friendship looks like to me. Friendship is acting out God's love for people in tangible ways. We were made to represent the love of God in each other's lives, so that each person we walk through life with has a more profound sense of God's love for them. Friendship is an opportunity to act on God's behalf in lives of the people that we're close to, reminding each other who God is. When we do the hard, intimate work of friendship, we bring a little more divine into daily life. We get to remind one another about the bigger, more beautiful picture that we can't always see from where we are. (page 49)

True friendship is a sacred, important thing, and it happens when we drop down into that deeper level of who we are, when we cross over into the broken, fragile parts of ourselves. We have to give something up in order to get friendship like that. We have to give up our need to be perceived as perfect. We have to give up our ability to control what people think of us. We have to overcome the the fear that when they see the depths of who we are, they'll leave. But what we give up is nothing in comparison to what this kind of friendship gives to us. Friendship is about risk. Love is about risk. If we can control and manage it and manufacture it, then it's something else, but if it's really love, really friendship, it's a little scary around the edges. (page 50)

Jack the Walking Flirt

Volree stopped by with Cooper on her way home from work last night for a glass of wine and to catch up! Her hubby is traveling a lot for work right now, ugh I remember those days. Mike is starting to travel more next month so we said we are going to have lots of mommy/little boy after work dates:)

Well while she was here she got Jack to walk to her! This video is not very good as someone called when I was recording:( He is a little FLIRT. Jack was hugging Volree and she put him down and he just walked right over to her!

We are practicing a lot this morning, but he is not as motivated to get over to me. I may have to lure him with some baked goods.

We are making some progress! Thank you for the help Volree!

Back to the RB Daily Life

It has been good to be back in our daily Ross Bridge routine. However, Jack is in major diva mode. I think he was used to 24/7 Mimi attention and the Paparazzi. We do have amazing neighbors though that have eased the transition with play dates every day. God could not have lead us to a more perfect neighborhood. I missed my friends so much while on holiday!

Ross Bride actually just won an award for the "America's Best Community", we knew that but it is nice that a third party acknowledged it. The article if you care to read more:

Mike has been too cute since we have returned home. The father and son bond is becoming more apparent then ever. Jack should love on Mike every chance he gets, he is pretty awesome. Preppy even got up at 5am to run with some neighbors, work a full day, and then come home to play/sweep the floor//bath/read. Gosh does he know how to win over one Momma's heart...

Last Florida Moments

Thank you Mom for putting up with Jacky sticky Bear paws and I for 4 weeks! It is such a treat to have such a gorgeous place to have fabulous family vacations.

Mom & Dad you are amazing and we are a lucky little Postma family to have you and all of your unconditional love.

Family vacations have always had a special place in my heart, they seem to always bring us closer as we learn more about each other and create "memories".

Thank you for starting that tradition Mom & Dad, we always hope to carry it on.

We Made it with a Little Help From Duct Tape

I still have a few Florida posts to do, but wanted to let everyone one know we once again made it back to the RB safely!

This trip home was a memorable journey though.

About 30 minutes into our 11 hour drive home we heard a weird noise and the back right window just dropped. We knew exactly what happened, the same thing happened to my parents Mercedes in Florida, the motor that runs the automatic window just stopped. It happens to old cars.

If this happened while I was at Costco I would have freaked out, but for this to happen on the highway with my baby and a FULL car load on a highway in Florida...umm this Momma got a little nervous. But my McPreppy  husband quickly fixed the window and we were on our way.

Duct Tape is AMAZING! There was no draft and not much noise at all.

Such an amazing 4 weeks in Naples, excited to get back to neighbors but I really didn't want to leave the warm weather!

Wish me luck on my first day alone with Jack in a month. I have a feeling there is a lot more "tot proofing" that I need to do!

Preppy's work of art.

Best road trip dog ever.

Dutch is out of reach of Mr. Grabby hands.

Mickey is sooo funny

Kiki & Cuppie

Kiki, is one of my very best friends (college roommate/maid of honor), and Cuppie is Kiki's wonderful mom. I love our "Hope College Family", we aren't just best friends we truly became a family and it is such a unique blessing.

Kiki has been such an amazing friend since Jack has been born. When I lived out in the Chicago 'burbs and Kiki in the city, she would come out and visit me always bearing gifts and food. Then we moved to Alabama and only a couple of months later Kiki learned that her and Todd would be relocating to Richmond, VA. It has been so nice having each other to talk to about moving to new cities, the challenges and the rewards. She is one of those amazing, genuine, thoughtful, generous, sweet friends that you just feel lucky to have met.

Even though Kiks moved, she makes sure to see Jack and I whenever she can. I feel like a total slacker friend since I haven't gone to visit her yet, but Jack is a little destructive at this time so I'm not sure we would even be welcome. She has flown into Chicago when I have been back home and this week down to Naples, (again always bearing adorable gifts that she travels with on the plane).

Mom, Jack, and I met Cuppie & Kiki at the Waterside Shops Thursday afternoon. It seemed like the best location for Jack to crawl around and fountains to entertain him. It was the coldest day, about 60, but sunny so we wanted to do something outside even though the beach and pool was out of the question. I was just so happy to see both of them I could have cried! We talked, walked, and played with Jack for the next 3 hours. My only wish is that it could have been longer, but I will take what I can get.

In need of a weekend with Kiki, Lolo, and Meesch!

Thank you Kiki & Cuppie for visiting with us and for your friendship:)

Showing off that he can now walk.

Can you tell they are both Dutch?
