Ugly Laugh

Thursday night I got to spend the evening with some of my favorite ladies in the world! We do a good job keeping in touch with texts and phone calls, but nothing compares to 5 hours of face time. Outside there was a snowstorm but inside the restaurant we broke out a sweat laughing! I mean laughing so hard it was the ugly kind of laugh where you can't breath, tear up, and loose control of your facial expressions. Nothing beats a good laugh with the best of friends. I am sure we looked crazy! We talked about serious stuff like the insane Chicago Suburb real estate market, how we don't want or kids to turn out spoiled brats, and that following all of Dr. Oz's advice would be a full time job. Obviously I would love to live closer so I could see the girls all the time, but I love our quarterly dinners:) So thankful for my Hope girls! It's hard to imagine 10.5 years ago is when it all started!

Forgot to take a pic so this is an oldie from October
Jack was back in the winter wonderland burbs with Mimi, Papa, Bobo, and Lala. I got pics throughout the night of him at Golf Nation watching Ben "hit" and then enjoying some burgers. Jack is awesome at dinner when there is a crowd! Plus, he has been talking about visiting everyone since we left Florida so Jack was one happy boy to be reunited. It is fabulous getting to spend a kid free night knowing your little one is being smothered with love by your free babysitters!

In the morning Mike had meetings and I had the chance to "relax". All I could think about as I took a bath watching the Today Show on the bathroom mirror TV, is how Jack would get a kick out of watching Mickey Mouse Club House and playing in the suds! I was a little bored without my buddy. I am pathetic. Or just a full blown Mom now. What in the world will I do for 3 days in Arizona...?

Happy New Year!

"Don't Cry Because it's Over, Smile Because it Happened." -Dr. Seuss

That quote pretty much sums up my feelings on the year 2011. It was an amazing year filled with so many lovely memories, but also again a lot of change. One of the main reasons I love this blog is it gives me the chance to look back, life flies bye so quickly these days and I love capturing little snapshots of our days. It gives me a time to reflect and be thankful. So very thankful.

I have a husband I am so in love with. A two year old boy that brings me more joy each and every day. The excitement of another bundle of love on the way. A family that is incredibly supportive and continues to be there when we need them. Good friends that I know are there even though miles separate us. We are healthy and Mike has a great job that allows me to do a job I love. Knowing how quickly things can change only makes me appreciate my blessings more.

2011 was very good to us and we look forward to the adventures that will unfold in 2012!

To me there is no better way than ringing in the New Year than with those I hold closest to my heart! Add the beach and Florida Sun...

Love 'em

Thanks for making so many memories possible!

Jack Say What

From 24 to 25 months Jack took huge strides in his communication abilities. He has been talking for a while now, but now it is in full sentences. Crazy how fast it goes from baby talk to a little boy talking! During the Christmas month and the entire time in Florida Jack was a sponge. Maybe it was because we were in the car and traveling all the time, and the normal toys weren't around, so we talked a lot. Pointing out the cars, buildings, numbers, letters, etc. He repeats and it seems like remembers everything you say these days. I love it! Most of the time.

So for a memory keeping purposes here are some of things Jack is saying at 24 to 25 months.

  • Numbers. He can point out the numbers, like on the side of the pool and clock, but not count all the way from 1 to 10. He usually jumps around forgetting a few numbers.
  • Letters. Jack loves the letters! He can point them all out to you if you write them out. Which he wants you to do over and over and over...
  • Colors. Can say and point out basic colors like red, yellow, blue, purple, orange, pink, green, etc.
  • When he burps or farts (yes he is all boy), Jack says "excuse me".
  • Much more consistent at saying "please" and "thank you".
  • After a prayer Jack now says "Amen".
  • While eating something he loves to say "Num Num, Huh?"
  • He still says "Bye Bye" but it is also followed by "See ya".
  • An "I love you" will come out, but not to Mike or I!
  • In the car everyone goes, " Vroom Vroom". Even the limo driver, "Vroom Vroom Eddy":)
  • Every morning Jack wants to go on an "airplane" or to the "Beach".
  • At sunset Jack would say "Night Night Sunshine".
  • I was reading Decision Points in Florida and Jack learned who "George Bush" was, and he shouts his name if you ask him too. I am instilling my love of GW into Jacky Bear now.
  • Phrases taught by Papa: "Boo Ya","How you Doin'", "Happy Happy Joy Joy", "Get 'er Done"

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!

Jack is much more aware of the holiday this year. He knows it has something to do with hearts, red, flowers, balloons, and candy. After Preppy opened his gift this morning Jack kept asking me for "more presents" and "Santa". Got to love this age. I had great ambitions of making heart shaped cinnamon rolls for breakfast, but instead only got around to making pancakes with strawberries. Next year I will remember to wake up earlier. We didn't have a party this year (because we don't have friends here yet) but Jack and I did make and mail out Valentine's to his Grandparents!
"I love you..."

My super sweet friend back in Alabama sent Jack a little Facebook Valentine:) How sweet is that! Jack knew right away it was "Luke and baby". I think Gina is the only other person I know that loves Valentine's Day like I do! I just love my Bama girls. I have to remind myself whenever I start to get sad that it was a blessing that I got to meet these women, and although my time was short there, I now get them in my life forever. Thank goodness for social media as talking on the phone and sending a handwritten letter is just not that easy with little ones constantly begging for your attention!

Of course we also had lots of love sent to Kentucky from the family! Jack watched the e-card that Papa sent about 50 times. The kissing goofy creatures just made him giggle every (50+) time! And Mim hit the Jack pot with a Pooh Bear Valentine and some heart "hops". He was so excited to get mail!

Valentine's Day isn't all about Jack. It is about my hunky hubby as well. Love of my life! If you follow me on Pinterest than you have seen the planning of our romantic evening (with a third wheel). Local beef filets with garlic herb butter, homemade mac & cheese, and argugula salad. Much easier to buy the best and cook in with a two year old, rather than worry about entertaining Jack and rushing through dinner. There are babysitters out there, but I am a fan of family Valentine's Days.

After dinner my boys went out and got some ice cream from our favorite little shop. Jack loves ice cream. He is just help his Momma watch her figure by eating most of mine:) Another wonderful and sweet Valentine's Day in the books. It's time to toast my footsie's but the fireside, snuggle on the couch while watching Glee, and not enjoy a good glass of red wine because...

Next year only promises to be  a Valentine's Day filled with more love, because there will be one more to share it with!

Baby Postma #2 coming in July!
