The trip was a wonderful time to reconnect as just a couple and not parents and to totally relax! I had never been to Arizona so it was also fun to see a new part of the country. It reminded me a lot of Palm Springs California and Cabo San Lucas. Our hotel, Hilton El Conquistador, was settled right into the mountains and which made for gorgeous sunsets. The pool area was beautiful with so many fun things for kids to do (we totally started to miss Jack when we say the splash pad and mini golf).
Sunday we had the chance to lay by the pool together, the rest of the week Mike had workshops to go to during the day. After some sun we explored the area, that is code for went shopping (wink wink). I had the best gelato of my life! No exaggeration, and I read they opened a location in Highland Park , so if you are out there you must try it! Our sushi dinner at RA was incredible and made us feel super old as it must have turned in to a hot night club for singles. It made for great people watching!
During the days I walked around and read by the pool. American Wife , was my book of choice, I am on a total GW Bush kick. Monday was super windy! I am talking like 50 mph winds, sometimes I had to fight to keep the book open. But it was warm and sunny so I still got to enjoy the view. Later on that night we did shopping for Jack and ate at another fabulous modern mexican resturant. Everything at Blanco was local and unique and fresh and just plain amazing. This baby loves Mexican:)
Mike heard that Tuesday was only supposed to be 60 degrees so he set up a little birthday spa day at the Ritz Carlton. So sweet of him as I would have just roughed it all bundled up poolside with my book. Instead I got to be completely pampered at one of my favorite places! The Ritz does everything to perfection. I ate lunch fireside and read my book before my 80 minute Mellow Mama massage. This year I really didn't want anything for my birthday, blame it on the expanding waistline. Well Mike couldn't have planned a better day! I saw one other person the entire day at the spa and was waited on left and right by the staff, I felt like Princess Kate! If you ever go to Tucson you must go to the Ritz, you can even pay $25 just to use the spa facility, and let me just saw that is one heck of a bargain! Mike met me for a cocktail and dinner. At sunset they had a little show which reminded me of Ross Bridge! This time it was a Navajo Indian playing the flute. The evening was romantic and quaint, just the perfect way to end the trip!
By Wednesday I couldn't wait any longer to see my little Jack! While I enjoyed the time away I missed those hugs and kisses so very very much! He of course was totally fine being smuthered in love by Mimi & Papa. Mom said he told her "Daddy workin' and Mommy workin' making Mommy"! Love it. Jack built a snowman, went sledding, visited Papa's office, went out for ice cream, gained about 3 lbs from good cooking, and got to play with Mimi's thousands of toys. Sammy boy never left his side Mom also said, and was depressed after Jack left. Loved getting all of the picture texts while we were away!
Thank you amazing babysitters! Jack was one very happy boy and keeps talking about his trip! Thank you sweet wonderful hubby for planning some time for the two of us! I am one very happy Momma!
