Wednesday morning we were Holland bound as a family of four! Leah had a gorgeous house rented for the week and we were thrilled (shocked) that she wanted this circus on her vacation. The 6.5 hour road trip went smoothly, I just woke Lucy up every 2 hours to eat, she is our newest little road warrior. I was so excited when we finally turned on the Holland exit, one of my "happy places".
Preppy we have come a long way. From frat parties and college bars to two kids and a suburban. The first thing that was unpacked was Jack's swim attire, his Lala took him right into the 90 degree pool with a slide and diving board. Heaven for Jacky Bear! And our water dog Dutch. After only 30 minutes Jack was down the slide all by himself going completely under and bouncing back up like a booey. Shortly after that he was leaping off the diving board with no fear. I got a little teary eyed watching Mr. Independent, since Lucy has been born Jack has grown up too much!
The rest of the party arrived and we headed to the Brewery for dinner. Lucy's first dinner out got to be at one of my favorite restaurants ever! Preppy and I have so many wonderful memories there. Maybe we will get to celebrate Lucy's 21st there when she is a Hope College junior! Lucy Hope made slept all 2 hours, I just got to stare down at her precious sleeping face! Jack was entertained by his Lala & Bobo, in fact he was entertained by those two the whole vaca.
On Thursday, right after Jack's first visit to Lake Michigan, the rain rolled in. And cool weather. It has been in the 90's up there all summer, but we got the rain days. The house that Leah had was amazing so it wasn't bad being stuck inside. Plus we had each other. Like Dad said, "You can't change the weather but you can change your attitude". So we all made sure we still had a great time! Friday afternoon we headed out to Grand Rapids for a quick trip with the Postma family where Lucy got to meet her Aunts and Uncles! We tried making a stop at all of our favorite places, but the 50 degree temps and rain did limit us a bit. Good thing there will be a next time.
Thank you Lala & Bobo for including us and hosting the whole family! Hopefully it will be a new summer tradition:) XOXO
